I intended the painting to feel like an intimate conversation between the figure and the viewer. It’s not about a single story but about the emotional expression of a person who has been observed closely and with empathy: you can read contemplation and endurance, softness and the outline of care. The impasto layering of the paint and the looseness of the drawing invite the viewer to complete the narrative, to supply the missing details with their own experience.
